CNN DROPS FROM  DOMINANCE IN PRIME-TIME

TO LAST PLACE AMONG THE FOUR CABLE NEWS NETWORKS

October was the third month this year in which CNN came in fourth below the other three cable news networks in prime-time programming, the most lucrative period of the 24-hour cycle. The alleged stars of the network, arrogant Lou Dobbs and peripatetic Anderson Cooper both came in last in their segments, as did Campbell Brown. Larry King, the only one to escape last place, registered a disappointing third place.

Dobbs, who boldly considered running for the White House early in the last election cycle, has slipped to a meager 162,000 viewers. Cooper had been the leader of his 10PM segment through 2008 before plummeting.

MSNBC is challenging CNN on the left while the running discord between the White House and FOX is producing vast amounts of press for the reactionary network. Meanwhile, CNN, the originator of the concept of an all-news cable network has been squeezed to an embarrassing ignominy. Maybe it’s time to bring back Ted Turner to return his creation to its lustrous roots.
